If The Shoe Fits

I was told by my doctor that I needed to try and put a shoe on. Starting with 15 minutes each day and working my way up to no more than 4 hours a day.
Saturday I gathered my shoe and slipped a sock on my foot that hasn't felt the warm cotton against it in over a month.
I tried.
I cried.
I tried some more.
I loosen up the laces all the way and I squeezed my foot into my shoe.
A drag queen fits into a pair of high heels better than I could fit my shoe into a size 7 running shoe.
Can you tell which one is squeezed in?

After about an hour, I slowly removed my shoe, but unfortunately the entire imprint of the shoe was left behind on my poor, ugly, swollen foot.
Alas, another reality check that the healing is NOT done and I have a long way to go.
SIGH, Sniff, sniff.

Simple Joys

It amazes me how simple things can completely entertain a 3 year old. My brain has been on overload with him lately because he only has two volumes, LOUD and LOUDER.
He doesn't have a STOP or a MUTE button and he is pretty much on fast forward, always. He runs (yes, I have given up on trying to make him stop running in the house) to his room, to the kitchen to the bathroom. JEEPERS, this boys has more energy than the pink bunny.

SO, in order to tame is wildness, we built a tent in his room. Good old-fashioned sheets and chairs.
This was one excited little man!

It lasted a day. Oh, well. Play-dough is awesome at keeping him busy.

My Not So Photogenic Son

I have been trying to take more everyday photos of our family to truly show what day to day life is around this crazy place.

A Quandary

It seems that Tim Tebow if everywhere lately. Heck, he is even the topic of this blog post. First, I must say that I do not have a preference about this guy.

Today, I came across the fact that John Parr re-wrote his 1985 hit, "St. Elmo's Fire" in honor of Tebow. If you haven't heard it, click here.

Now, that alone ticked me off. I am rather fond of the original. I read a bit about why he altered the song and thus my quandary has begun. To like or dislike Tebow, that is the question......

Looking at other NFL players I have come to the conclusion that if young boys and girls idolize Tebow for kneeling to God instead of idolizing players like Michael Vick (dog lover that he is) or Plaxico Burress (accidently shot himself) and the list of NFL criminals is quite lengthy, then I think I'm just fine with that.

Resolution

By now some of you may have already broken your New Year's Resolution, while I am just now pondering mine. In reality, I don't think it is a resolution, but more of an awakening.
During this past year I have relied heavily on friends and family. More than once I have called to vent or cry or do both. It wasn't the fact that they listened, it was what they did afterwards that has made a huge difference this year.

The friends that called me just to ask, "how are you doing?" No text, no e-mail, no Facebook post. A simple, but yet, powerful phone call. Yes, it takes more time, but that is why the phone call is so profound, it is heartfelt with a human voice on the other end and for some days, was the highlight of the day.

Electronics have taken over our planet and while I am not immune to these wonderful technological advances, the communications that meant the most to me was a hand written card arriving in the mail.

Small things can make a huge difference in someone's life. A hot home-made meal the day after moving in was a priceless gift.

Spencer being taken to the zoo for the day so we could unpack was a life-saver.

Friend's dropping by just to see how I was after surgery was such a highlight.

These aren't things I asked for, it was done because of love and friendship. So my resolutions this year are to write more and use electronics less. Be aware of others needs and act upon those needs; don't wait to be asked. A hot meal, a handwritten card or a phone call can brighten someone's day, just as it has brightened mine.

Happy New Year everyone.

My Protector

Our recliner has become known as "my throne." I spend 99% of my day in the recliner chair. My laptop is to the right sitting on a TV tray and my phone and drink sit to the left. One of my dogs, Moxie, lays in the corner of the recliner, next to my leg.
She usually lays on my feet, but her dog sense tells her to stay away. She has not tried to lay on my feet since surgery day.
She curls up on my lap or next to my leg and has been my shadow for 12 days now. Moxie is rarely called by her name. It is usually dumb dog, fuzz ball or other inappropriate words. Let's just say she is NOT the smartest thing on this planet, but I guess she can be pretty sweet when she wants to be.

She's been my buddy through this "FUN" time.
