Pink Polka Dots

I love polka dots and especially love pink polka dots. Polka dots just make me smile. Today they made me frown. The pink polka dots were all over Spencer's body. They were tiny, flat red bumps that covered his belly, back, legs, diaper area, arms and face. We headed to the doctor. On a side note, we have visited our doctor's office about every two weeks since January and in some instances, more than twice in the same week.
I knew it wasn't chicken pox, but I was really perplexed as to what it was. Spencer had been cranky (to put it lightly) since Saturday, but otherwise no apparent symptoms. His normal happy, go, lucky self was anything but happy. So the PA declared that the rash was roseola. A simple virus that produces a rash and very high fever. We probably didn't notice the fever because we had been giving him tylenol to help ease the teething pain. Oh, did I mention his left ear is infected AGAIN. Yep, 4th time around. Once nice thing is that the PA didn't even mess with amoxicillin or augmentin. NOPE, went straight for the zithromax, the stuff that works!
On a happier note, Spencer now has two teeth, his second bottom tooth came through.
So, for the next day or so, I will be giving some extra love to my polka dotted, cranky boy.

Superhero With a Foot Fetish

Did you know I have a superhero living in my house?

He has lightning fast speed.
He can read your mind.
He has telepathy and can change your thoughts.
He can make your heart stop.
Did I mention he has a foot fetish?

Let me begin with the lightning fast speed.
Spencer has been crawling for about 3 weeks. Last weekend he figured out that he could move; I mean REALLY move. On Sunday, he decided to play with our tall fluted lamp. I picked him up and moved him away from the lamp and in nanosecond speed...CRASH, OUCH!
The lamp landed on my head! You see, no one realizes that nanosecond speed exists until you have a child crawling in your house. Those who have had children, soon forget that this speed exists, but they are quickly reminded (in nanosecond speed of course) how easily a child slips underneath of your feet.

Spencer has also learned to read your mind. He looks at you KNOWING that he is going to get moved away from the stereo system and takes off crawling (in nanosecond speed). It is a race, who can get there the fastest. He can read your mind and knows that he will be caught and picked up, he lunges forward to just get a grasp of the precious, untouchable stereo glass doors.

Telepathy, yes, he can change your thoughts. I came around the corner to find Spencer playing in piles of dirt from my houseplants and he had dirt and potting soil in his hands, mouth and hair. SPENCER! was the first thing out of my mouth. I couldn't believe it, what a mess. TELEPATHY: "mommy I am so cute, you couldn't get mad at me!"

How could I get mad at this face, of course I'm not mad. It's telepathy and a cute face I'm tellin' ya! This picture does not due the incident justice.

He can make your heart stop.
Spencer has given me two heart stopping moments in a week. Last weekend he went down for a nap and he was talking a bit too much, so I went to check on him. My heart STOPPED in its tracks. There he was standing straight up in his crib. He just learned to crawl and he hadn't pulled himself up on anything, until now. He was inches away from tumbling over the side of the crib. Needless to say, he got rocked to sleep that day and daddy lowered the crib 2 notches just to be safe.
You notice the above picture with the plants and dirt. A NANOSECOND after I removed him from this area and cleaned it up, within a nanosecond he was back. I picked him up to move him and he needed a diaper change. As I was changing him, out of his mouth comes a cactus leaf. My heart stopped again. YES - the poison control center was called within a nanosecond! Thank goodness it wasn't toxic. So my house plants are now outside waiting for a new home.

Foot fetish. Spencer has always had a fascination with his feet, his sisters feet, my feet, his socks, daddy's slippers and anything else that goes on a foot. He constantly removes his socks and sometimes tries to eat them. His little 2 month old friend Haley was in the bouncer seat and he decided that she did not require socks either. Spencer's new toy are shoelaces. The next step was putting sandals on his feet. NO, no, no and no - he absolutely did not like shoes on his feet. He threw a fit until I removed them. He was happy once he could play and chew on them.

So, you see, I really DO have a superhero in my house!

Notice the bottom shelf is now completely empty of all things that I want to remain in tact. He thinks the bottom shelf is his, he crawls into it to play.

Spencer's Baptism

Spencer was baptized on April 19th. Dan (Justin's dad) was able to fly in from Indiana and Jayson (Justin's brother), Kayla, Zach and Wolf were able to drive the 8 hours down from Omaha. We were so grateful for all that were there to celebrate the baptism.
Godmothers Becky and Shlya - love to you!
Godfathers Jayson and Clay - thanks for everything.
Tom, Leslie and Abby - thanks for coming bright and early!
All in all, it was a very quick and exhausting weekend, but we loved seeing everyone! Spencer went swimming for the first time. I personally think he is oh so cute in his swim trunks. Madison had fun jumping on the trampoline and playing Nintendo with Zach and Wolf. It was wonderful weather on Saturday, but turned cold and windy for Sunday. Sunday was really chilly, especially at the 8am service. The pastor quoted one of our all time favorite movies, "The Princess Bride." It was so fitting that our entire group are fans of the movie and he worked his sermon around the movie.
Thanks to all of the great pictures from Kayla and Clay - awesome! So here are the pictures.... no, I didn't post all 200 of them... "Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up."

Pay It Forward

I'm sure we have all heard about Pay It Forward. A complete stranger does something nice for another complete stranger. Today, I was the recipient of a Pay It Forward.

I went to the hospital cafeteria to eat today. I never bring my purse, just my debit card. I hit the salad bar, some soup and a drink. I paid with my debit card and DENIED! My debit card was brand new and Justin activated it for me, but it wouldn't work. There I stood with a horrified look on my face, embarrassed and asking the cashier to put my food aside while I walk back over to my building across the street, go up to the 4th floor and get my purse and come back.
The lady behind me, said not to worry about it, she covered my lunch today. I asked her which floor was she on and I would kindly repay her. She told me not to worry about, a stranger had paid for her lunch a few weeks ago, so it was her way to pay it forward. I promised I would also pay it forward and thanked her for the upteenth million time.
So, I got to thinking about how I could pay it forward. It's kinda fun. I will let you know what I end up doing. For now, here is something to think about, how would you pay it forward? What would you do for a complete stranger? Would you buy the person behind you in the fast food line a drink, a cup of coffee or lunch? Would you put money in an expired parking meter? What would you do? I'd love to hear you ideas!

99% for Me

Spencer has crazy hair. Anyone that has seen him knows his hair sticks straight up all the time. He was a dirty mess and needed a bath, but it was a bit too early for a bath. I decided to play with some hair gel to see what would it look like in his hair. There was no good reason for it, except I WANTED it. So, below is the result. Try not to giggle to hard. I cracked up and he enjoyed his mohawk.

He also loves his baths, so the bath came about 1/2 hour after these pictures were taken. No more hair gel!

The bath makes him sleepy and he LOVES to sleep with his glowing seahorse, but this night was bit much. He fell asleep with the seahorse in his arms. He usually will "talk" to him while is drifting off to sleep. Such a sweet little man!

Puffs Please

I bought some of the puffed baby foods (I don't know the correct name of them, so we call them puffs). He can pick up larger pieces of food and get them to his mouth, but these are smaller and he can quite get them yet. He LOVES them, so he has his own way of getting them into his mouth.

Dancing Queen

Madison had dance practice last night and to her suprise (and mine) she was given a solo part in the group's dance. Her teacher praised her for working hard and always "bustin' it out" during competitions. She was very excited and I am very proud of her. She has worked very hard and it is really nice to see her rewarded for the effort.
YEAH for her!
